Keeping up with the contact changes has been a challenge.
Energy prices taking a hike so close to winter is going to hit many people hard, so we're doing our bit to help by sharing eight practical tips to help keep those costs down.
- Avoid leaving your TV or other similar electric products on standby. TV's in particular are one of the most energy-draining appliances in your home.
- If you aren't already using them, start introducing energy saving light bulbs. LEDs are the best whilst halogen bulbs and older traditional filament bulbs, are the least efficient.
- Where you can, use smart appliances or meters, as they will help you track exactly how much you are spending and how much energy you have used in a certain period. This will help you discover the best times during the day to use your appliances such as your washing machine or heater.
- Turn off your lights and, if you have children, teach them to do this as early as possible. According the Energy Saving Trust, an average household of four people could save around £20 by turning off lights in rooms that are not in use.
- Use draught blockers around your doors and/or windows. Don't waste the heat!
- Fill your kettle for what you need and not to the top. Many kettles now indicate how much water you need for the number of cups you are making.
- Clean your radiators. Get your system flushed every five to six years - it will save a lot of energy in the long run.
- Take shorter showers and turn off the tap when you are brushing your teeth!
